We're working on improving date navigation. We'd like to get your
quick feedback on these two designs for the time sheet. Which do you
like best and why? Comment here.

Glad to help!

I love how you're showing the hours next to each day! That's beautiful! I love the simple week to week navigation, too, not to mention the easy day to day navigation! Wonderful!

I think I like the timesheet1.gif design better. Doing the tab design for the days would be a little confusing - different tabs usually mean
different categories, not different days. So the first one works better, with one small suggestion. Maybe change the orange highlight from square to rounded corners, like you have it for the main categories (time sheet, reports, projects, etc.)

Hope this helps!

I would combine them: use the tabbed interface (that is so from this time), but use in addition to the (abbreviated) day name also the day from the date, that is really easy while navigating.

I think the second option it's more clear (and more good looking) but the first really is more informative. I've showed the screens to my wife
(she's a UI designer) and she is telling you guys to make an option using the tabs from the second screen with the information found on the
first one. I think that's a good idea.

If you need anything else, just let me know -- I'm really happy to help you guys :)

Thanks

Cool! I find the second one a little easier to read read, because the tabs make it clear that the display below is tied to the highlighted date. I think the physical metaphor makes that a bit clearer, whereas it takes a slightly larger jump of logic with the first design.

Having the day numbers on these tabs would be nice. I think you may also need a "current day" marker also, since the highlighted tab and the current day aren't necessary the same thing.

Best,

Dave

Personally I like timesheet1. I see the value of the popping tab view (could be better for colorblind people) but it looks a little old fashioned...perhaps with some tuning on the look I could be swayed to timesheet2.gif's idea.

I think I like the second version better, though it would be nice to see them both with some of the surrounding context. The tabs make it very clear what you are looking at.

If you end up going with the first one, to me, the number part looks to much like a year rather than a day. Not quite sure how to change it, maybe like "Thursday the 1st" would work better.

I've put two full screen mock ups behind the Designs now. Should be easier to judge them in context. Good tip. Thanks.

For me the second design would be better.
The only thing i'm missing at this point would be to step into another week easy (eg week 12)
Or a specific date.
(Just a thought ;) )
